Connect Lyme Regis with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Lyme Regis to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?
Give a hike!Help connect Lyme Regis
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Lyme Regis’s Slow Ways.

Great connection between Axminster and Lyme for those that want to walk one way....

There are many short ascents and descents along the way, some have steps, so it's quite strenuous for the distance....

Fabulous route and I agree with everything that others have said - it is hard going at times, so you need to be prepared as there is no exit or cafe along the way. I agree that it would be better if the route came straight down to the coast at Lyme Regis, following the SWCP, so that you can see the Cobb and the waterfront there. The scenery, landscape and vegetation are unusual and well worth the effort....

It makes an interesting alternative to the undercliff coastal route between Lyme Regis and Seaton with the opportunity to take the vintage restored tram from Colyton to Seaton (or walk the short Seacol Slow Way). For a full day of (moderately challenging) walking you could walk the Lyme - Colyton - Seaton - Lyme triangle via lovely Slow Ways routes throughout....

There's a regular bus service between Seaton and Lyme Regis, so this makes a good route even if based at one end or the other. Alternatively, a longer day out can be had by following the triangle of slow ways Lyme Regis - Colyton - Seaton - Lyme Regis....

I walked this route on a very wet winters day, but it was a great walk despite the conditions. In Lyme the route uses the River Lim path all the way to the sea, which is mostly traffic free, and is in my view the nicest walk through Lyme....
Helen Gough
Once in town the route is a really nice traffic free, riverside, wooded walk, well used by tourists and locals....

Fine views are available from time to time but overall a poor route...

Walking from Colyton despite the route having quite a few roads to walk, these were virtually traffic free .The highlight of the walk was the views from Musberry Hill, outstanding. With some of the route following the East Devon Way the signposting made life easier. Despite the wet weather at times it was a thoroughly enjoyable walk....

Leaving Axminster train station the walk was spoilt by traffic until we turned onto the footpath by the fire station, from then on it was a very pleasant walk....

Slow Ways Cristie added Axmlym two, a new walk from Axminster to Lyme Regis
Walk this routeThis is a great walk, but I dropped it to 4 stars just because there are some short sections where the paths are not maintained, so are difficult to walk on, and in some cases they are hard to find. The walk down in to Lyme Regis is brilliant, the famous Cobb, the town and sea are all suddenly revealed and you head towards them....

A significant amount of it is either on roads, or the well kept Lim valley path, but the roads in question are quiet lanes, sometimes dead-ends as far as vehicles are concerned, though you may come face to face with the occasional tractor....

Watchout for golf balls as you cross the golf course at Axmouth, and try not to be put off by the warning signs about the difficulty of the walk....
Helen Gough
It should not be attempted by anyone with any kind of disability or lack of staying power, but is a great walk!...

I walked this route from Axminster on a beautifully clear day; it has some excellent views along the way and was easy to follow....

At the end we did not join Coombe Street as the route shows, but walked on along the river side and went through the delightful Town Mill area with its artisan shops and eating places before rejoining Coombe Street....

Walked slowly up the hills, as carrying a big pack, took a couple of wrong turnings and had to find my way back - easy with the OS map to guide me and so took a third more time than recommended even with the shortcut through Axminster....

A stunning walk, completely off road, often under the canopy of trees. Signage at the beginning of the walk describes it as arduous. It has steep gradients (long climbs at the beginning and end) so is not easily accessible if you don't feel fit....
